Fernie, W.T.

Book Description: 1899. First edition. xxiv, 566pp. and a 1 page advertisement for another of the author's books. The author of this work wrote several others on various types of alternative health treatments, the best known of which is probably 'Herbal Simples' - a handbook of curative herbal simples supplied from the garden, field, hedgerow, and store closet. In 'Animal Simples' he describes treatments that can be obtained from the animal kingdom, with an account of the historical background to many of the treatments. The book includes sections on the badger, cat, cockle, hare, mole, snail, snake, and woodlouse. There are treatments for germ-killing, bronchitis, burns and scalds, colic of the bowels, corns, cramp, gout, headache, hysteria, piles, rheumatism, and much more. The book is bound in the original blue cloth covered boards with gold titling on the spine and front board. The case of the book is in very good condition with some shelf wear on the boards and bumping to the spine ends. The contents are tight and clean with a name and date written on the top edge of the title page. Size: 7.4" Tall

* These early books, like Dispensatory's, Materia Medica's, Medical Botany, and the like, come from a time when Botanical Medicine was the most used form of medicine in the world. As a professional Clinical Herbalist, I find them a rich source of knowledge, history and practical use, especially in these modern times. They are most valuable to own and will provide a lifetime of exploration!
