Book Description: Original publisher's green cloth binding with yellow dust wrapper. 6 1/2" x 9 1/2." 591 pages, complete. 191 black and white, halftone illustrations. Illustrations are from photographs taken by the author. Gilt lettering on front cover and spine. Pages and covers are clean; binding is tight. Dust wrapper is chipped along the top edge but does not affect the printed words. Dust wrapper is price-clipped. On inside of dust wrapper: "This is a personal narrative of a scientist's adventures in the little-known islands of the East Indies, Sumatra, Java, Ceylon, Morocco, Algeria, and the west coast of Africa." David Fairchild (1869-1954) was an American botanist. This autobiography chronicles his travels on the Allison Vincent Armour Expeditions from 1925-1927. Fairchild describes the different cultures and places he visited and the various plants he observed and procured.
