John Milton Scudder (1829-1894) was a professor of Obstetrics and diseases of women at the Eclectic Medical Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. The author draws on "allopathic" medicine for descriptions of anatomy and surgical procedures. He does emphasize that "eclectic" doctors have a wider range of therapies and these are described within.
