Conopholis mexicana - A Wonderful Unknown Medicine Plant

Reproductive

CONOPHOLIS  MEXICANA - Ghost Plant, Broomrape, Mexican Squawroot

This member of the Orobanchaceae is a little known and used medicine plant.  I have spent nearly 20 years working with this wonderful and versatile medicine.  I have found it to be a major and significant ally in a number of different problems.

The whole family is highly prized in China. The Chinese have a good way of describing its actions. - It can tonify the kidneys, strengthen yang - reproductive and urinary disorders, such as impotence, spermatorrhea, urinary incontinence, post urinary dripping, cold pains in lower back and knees. Warms the womb - Infertility, excessive uterine bleeding, leukorrhea from cold deficiency. Moistens intestines - constipation, good for elderly or younger patients with blood and qi deficiency. Overall, this species helps to build up kidney qi.

It has the actions of an astringent, mild laxative, sedative and has been used to restore muscular strength and tone after debilitating illnesses and mild strokes. This muscle strengthening works very well and for many years, I have used this with a number of stroke patients, coupled with physical therapy. Works will by itself or combined with other herbs for menopausal hot flashes.

A very important and little known about medicine plant. I prefer using a dry plant extract, done as a 1:5 with 50% alcohol or dried plant can be used as a tea or ground up into a powder and put into capsules.

This plant has been used in a number of male and female reproductive formulas that I have created.

To be continued ....
